Our Story
Blue River Cabinetry was founded in 1994 by three Amish craftsmen, just outside of Fredericksburg, Indiana, in the heart of Southern Indiana Amish Country. The founders of Blue River had a simple goal of making the best hand-crafted custom cabinets in the region. With hard work and determination, this goal was met. The business grew and prospered until a fire destroyed the cabinet shop in May 2002.
Unfazed by this unfortunate event, the local community and Amish friends came together to rebuild the plant in less than 90 days. Although the new facility used electricity from a generator and had gas lights in the office, it allowed the founders to redesign the shop to take advantage of modern woodworking techniques and procedures. Business once again flourished.
In October 2003, two of the three founders had a calling to establish a new Amish community in Missouri; therefore, Blue River Cabinetry was sold to Mike Metheny and Randy Scherer, two local businessmen with experience in furniture manufacturing.
Today, Mike and Randy share the founder's goal of making the finest hand-crafted custom cabinetry on the market. While they have taken steps to modernize the shop by connecting to the electrical grid and adding computers, the core values of Blue River haven't changed. The heart and soul of Blue River will always be based on an unwavering commitment to quality and value. By combining modern technologies with old world Amish principles, Blue River delivers the highest quality all wood cabinetry that you will be proud to display in your home for years to come.
